Volunteer
I started volunteering back in summer of 2018, took a break and came back. A city girl turned farm girl. I love all the animals that are here at the sanctuary. Coming out here has taught me that the animals are here with us NOT for us. Alex and Alesja have created a sanctuary for volunteers to come and get away from life itself. Being out here with the animals you forget your own problems and concentrate on the animals, their well-being, surrounding them with love and understanding and fun enrichment times. Whether you are scooping out a stall or cleaning an outside pen, there is a sense of peace and purpose that comes over you. Cuddling one of the potbellied pigs, having one of the horses’ nibble on your clothes after they remember where you hide their treats, or being slightly head butted by one of the goats is the best reward after a long day or week. I enjoy spreading knowledge of the sanctuary to other people. Being vulnerable in telling others that I have switched my own eating habits due to volunteering and being educated of the horrors of neglectful animal rights. Sharing knowledge is incredible and possibly being able to change someone else’s views due to volunteering has its own reward.
Working with others that have the same mindset in helping and saving the animals live their best life possible. Also, cuddling with Emma!
